Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation
Confirmation is the moment when a baptized person rises with conviction and freely stands before the Church, ready to claim their faith as their own.
In this sacrament, they are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit, strengthened with divine courage, and sent forth to live as a mature disciple of Christ. Through the bishop’s laying on of hands and anointing with sacred chrism, the Holy Spirit intensifies the grace first poured out at Baptism—igniting in the confirmed a deeper desire to witness to Christ, to serve God’s people with joy, and to take their place in the heart of the Church’s mission.
Confirmation For Teens:
The Sacrament of Confirmation confers on us the Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit to root us more firmly in our relationship with Jesus Christ, strengthen our bond with His Church, and help us bear witness to the Christian faith. This Sacrament is conferred on candidates around 8th or 9th grade. To prepare for this sacrament, candidates must have been enrolled in the religious education program for at least two (2) years; have regular attendance at Mass, participate fully in the preparation classes and attending at least 80% of classes offered, attend a Confirmation retreat, service hours and complete an exit interview.
Fulfilling the requirements indicates the person’s readiness and desire to receive the Sacrament. The Sacrament of Confirmation is not to be forced upon anyone, nor is it to be viewed as guaranteed. Pastors may neither deny a person this sacrament, nor are they to provide it without ensuring that the person is ready to receive it.
